Franconian beer cellar culture at its very best

The idyllic beer garden above the Löwenbräu Felsenkeller

Can you imagine anything nicer than a hot summer’s day, sitting in the shade of the broad-leafed trees in a lovely beer garden, enjoying a palatable, freshly tapped Kellerbier or wheat beer and a hearty snack?

The Löwenbräu beer garden, just a few minutes’ walk from our brewery/restaurant, set in an idyllic deciduous forest above our Felsenkeller is just the place to enjoy Franconian joie de vivre in its purest form.

Felsenkeller cellars were often set up under shady deciduous trees, or planted with chestnut trees to keep the beer cool even in the summer and to ensure nothing toppled over. Over time, the beer cellar was, as well as a store, also used as a bar and the shaded areas created the typical beer garden areas, so typical of Bavaria. Following this tradition, the Löwenbräu-Keller is even mentioned in a few books as an insider tip for ‘Kellern’, a place where beer fans get to experience 150% beer culture...
